Tournaments and Cups

Coltopia runs two scheduled events every week: a Pokemon Tournament on Saturday night and a Cup on Wednesday night. Both are single elimination brackets at level 50, and everyone who enters gets rewards, win or lose.

How an event night goes

If your team breaks a rule when you confirm, the server lists every problem at once so you can fix them and try again. If fewer than two players enroll, the event is cancelled and the schedule moves on.

Your party is locked once you confirm. While enrollment is still open you can swap things around, as long as the new team still follows the rules. Once the first match starts, changing a Pokemon, held item or move drops you from the event.

Match rules

The tournament stadium at spawn — Semifinals and the final are played in the stadium at spawn.

Big brackets play their early rounds at the same time in the public arenas around spawn, so you may not be teleported to the stadium until the semifinals.

Team rules

Bans follow Smogon, using the same lists Pokemon Showdown uses for its National Dex formats, so a team that is legal there is legal here. Two rules are our own: one of each item per team, and one Mega-capable Pokemon per team. None of this applies in the Chaos Cup.

Monotype Cup and Little Cup their own Smogon lists

Monotype Cup uses Smogon's Monotype list. Banned abilities: Moody, Power Construct, Shadow Tag, Sand Veil, Snow Cloak. Banned items: Booster Energy, Damp Rock, Focus Band, Icy Rock, King's Rock, Leppa Berry, Quick Claw, Razor Fang, Smooth Rock, Terrain Extender, Bright Powder. Banned moves: Baton Pass, Last Respects, Shed Tail. Arena Trap is allowed.

Little Cup uses Smogon's Little Cup list. Banned abilities: Chlorophyll, Moody, Sand Veil, Snow Cloak. Banned items: Eevium Z, King's Rock, Quick Claw, Razor Fang, Bright Powder. Banned moves: Assist, Aurora Veil, Baton Pass, Dragon Rage, Sonic Boom, Sticky Web. The Pokemon ban list for Little Cup is our own and is checked when you enroll.

The cups

Each Wednesday brings a different cup. Most use your own team with one extra rule. Three of them give you a team for the night instead, and your own party is held and handed back afterward.

Draft Cup pick your team on the website

Enroll in game, then open the link in chat to join the draft.

Ready up. You have 90 seconds to click ready.
Spin for your spot. Everyone spins a wheel for a number from 1 to 16, and the highest number picks first.
Draft. You get 30 seconds to look over the pool, then 20 seconds per pick in snake order. Every team takes one S tier, two A tier, two B tier and one C tier Pokemon. Run out of time and a pick is made for you.

Your team is built at level 50 and loaned to you for the bracket. There are no gimmicks in the Draft Cup.

Auction Cup bid with $25

Pokemon from the pool come up one at a time, seven for every player. Bids start at $1 and each lot runs for 10 seconds. A new bid puts at least 5 seconds back on the clock, and once you have six Pokemon you stop bidding.

Out of money? You can still place one free bid on each lot. A free bid only wins if nobody paid for that Pokemon, and the earliest free bid wins a tie. Finish with no Pokemon and you are out of the bracket.

Safari Cup catch it, build it, battle it

Catch. Your party and inventory are put away, and you get 6 Master Balls and a teleport to the catch point. You have 5 minutes.
Build. Your catches are raised to level 50 with perfect IVs. Open the link in chat to build your team on the website: evolve or devolve, then pick moves, ability, nature, held item and EVs. You have 10 minutes, or less if everyone locks in early.
Battle. The bracket uses the teams you built.

Catch nothing and you sit this one out, but you still get the participation rewards. Safari catches are not kept, and your own party and items come back when the cup ends.

The prize Pokemon is a shiny level 50, listed on the calendar ahead of time. It goes to your PC if your party is full.

Every entrant also gets a bundle of participation rewards: Poke Balls, Beast Balls, Exp. Candy XL, EV items and seeds. Click Spectate and you get the same bundle for watching. If you are offline when it pays out, it waits for your next login.

Each title has one holder at a time, the most recent winner. Every win also stays on your coltopia.com profile, with a crown for tournaments and a cup for cups.

FAQ

Can I enter with any Pokemon I own? Yes, as long as the team follows the rules for that event. The server checks when you confirm.

What happens to my own team in the Draft, Auction and Safari Cups? It is held for you and returned when the cup ends, when you drop out, or the next time you log in.

I disconnected during a match. Did I lose? Not right away. You have 3 minutes to reconnect before the match is forfeited.
